A woman pushes a cart of desserts and drinks down the aisle and stops at my seat. “Would you like something?” she asks in a broad Scottish accent. My eyes feast upon the entire cart of goodies before ultimately settling on a profiterole (creme puff) with a cuppa tea and a glass of white wine.
Riding first class in a train from London to Edinburgh has all sorts of perks: first of all, it’s train travel, which is probably the best kind of travel ever if you ask me; the scenery is stunning; free WiFi–every blogger’s dream; and the abundance of food and drink.
You certainly won’t go hungry on this ride between the endless carts of sandwiches, crisps, jacket potatoes, and desserts. But the dessert cart is the best cart of all. And the profiterole was the perfect combination of crispy and soft, and just sweet enough. A lovely mid-afternoon snack before arriving in what would become one of my favorite cities ever.
I’ve done the drive from Edinburgh to London via Glasgow, the Highlands, York and Norwich. Very beautiful, but as the driver I would’ve preferred train travel. My wife’s British family complain about the inadequate rail system in their country. I personally love it.

I also love the rail system there! It’s really convenient, and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it being late or anything. Maybe next time you’ll get to take the train!
I’ll keep this in mind when I take a trip to good ‘ol Edinburgh…
